要是不深入了解

很可能誤解為“叫我的名字”

其實這是一句罵人的話

01“call me names”是什么意思?

call sb names 意思是：

“謾罵（某人），辱罵（某人）”

注意，這里sb要用賓格形式

還有用復(fù)數(shù)names

是固定用法

例：

At my last school, they called me names because I was so slow.

在我上一所學(xué)校，他們罵我，因為我動作太慢了。

《指環(huán)王》里也有一句經(jīng)典臺詞：

Call him names, run him down all the time.

辱罵他，一直詆毀他。

如果要表達(dá)“叫某人的名字”

可以用：call sb's name

例：

Do you hear someone calling your name?

你聽見有人叫你名字了嗎？

02“call sth your own”是什么意思?

call還有“稱…為...；把…看作...”的意思

call sth your own = 認(rèn)為…是自己的

例：

I don't aspire to anything very grand, I just want a place I can call my own. 

我不奢望特別氣派的東西，我只想擁有一個屬于我自己的地方。

03“call the shots”是什么意思?

call the shots意思是：

控制；處于決策地位

也可以說成 call the tune

例：

It's my life. I call the shots. 

我的生活，我做主。

04“call it quits”是什么意思?

call it quits有兩個意思：

停止做

例：

At 10 o'clock I decided to call it quits for the day. 

10點鐘時我決定停止工作。

②

同意債務(wù)已償清；同意已互不相欠

美式英語中則常用 call it even

例：

I paid for last week's shopping and you paid for this week's, so let's call it quits. 

上周買東西我付的錢，這周是你付的，這樣我們就兩不相欠了。
